Spring is in the air. Sure it may be cold still, but that doesn’t matter. Spring is on its way. It’s just got to be here somewhere. So start preparing for it. Easter is coming up in a few weeks too. So I say now would be a good time to clear away any straggling Leprechauns and bust out the bunnies. Let the rowdy lion of March go out like a lamb instead. Hopefully.
One way to invite the spring into your home is to decorate your place with flowers. For those of you fortunate enough to have garden, go plant a few of your favorites right along the path to your doorstep or somewhere close to a window so you can see them grow. It will brighten up your day every time you walk by it.
For those of you who stuck in an apartment or condo, I know how you feel. It’s like cabin fever for the land-lovers to not be able to be in charge of what people put in the dirt around you. Or maybe you don’t want to buy flowers because they also seem to die too quickly if put in a vase on your table. Or maybe you’re allergic. Or maybe you don’t even like flowers. So what do you do? How do you let spring in?
Don’t worry. I have a plan for you…
You make your own.
I saw this on a table at a group dinner I went to the other day. It’s really simple. Here’s what you’ll need to make the easy Easter egg flower:
First take the clear plastic cup and fill it with the green Easter grass. Then take half of the Easter egg and place it in the middle the piece of paper. Hold the egg in place while you trace a circle on the piece of paper with your pen or pencil. Cut the hole out. Then cut a fun design a few inches away from the hole for the edge of the flower petals. Put the Easter egg halves back together, slip the paper “petals” hole around the egg, then place the completed “flower” in the cup on top of the grass.
And there you have it. Your very own portion of spring that will never die… in theory at least. I won’t force you to keep it up for the rest of your life. I promise.
…your mouth would be watering at the sight of homemade noodles about to become part of a culinary masterpiece. My compliments to the chef. It’s a good thing that this soup appears on the table even when people are well… or else I’m afraid we’d all be tempted to get sick just so we could have some more of the soup. (Yes. It tastes that good!)
…after a long night the light seeping through the window onto the most ordinary of things would give reason to stop amid the subtle (or not-so-subtle) chaos. Pondering the beauty in that sunshine reminds me that there is something more to all this. That “something more” is the healing that comes in many little pieces along the way. It may be a small stitch for the wound, a Band-Aid for the cut, or maybe just a sight for the heart to enjoy. The important thing is that it does come if you are willing to stop and see the difference between where you were and where you are now.
…you would probably laugh at this little kitty who has decided to be my Mom’s watchdog. It’s cute, but I do wish she knew the meaning of the word ‘appendectomy.’ Maybe then this creature would understand why she is not allowed to curl up on Mom’s stomach and gets sent to the side of the couch instead. Poor thing. She’s just trying to do what she thinks is her job.
…The bald kid’s new name might as well be changed to “Wilson” like the neighbor
on Home Improvement. He’s just too funny. (His book choice is a little ironic for the current situation too.) I don’t think he realizes that if he weren’t so paranoid, he probably wouldn’t end up on the blog so much.
…maybe you would think it’s funny that my Mom wants Beanie in this post so he doesn’t feel left out. After all he is “part of the guard too” as she says
…you would notice how the hands that needed some help before are doing more on their own. She’s eating better portions now
and drinking all of her water out of the water bottle at a quicker pace (photo right). My Mom is such a trooper. She’s getting up on her own saying funny things like “ha, ha! Look at me!! I’m standing” and walking around more and more. She says she enjoys hearing your sweet comments and the update posts in her behalf. Thank you so much for being there for our Mama. It makes a difference I assure you.
